Troop 1102 was founded 25 years ago with the idea that scouting is to help boys develop into honorable men.
Every scouting activity is designed to move the boys towards three basic aims:
The troop empowers boys to be leaders. Scouts learn by doing. The boys develop the troop's program, take responsibilities and determine how to achieve their goals.
Adult leadership provides guidance and direction to the boys, assisting them in fulfilling the goals the troop has established. Parents and adult leaders can watch with great satisfaction as junior leaders thrive in achieving the goals they have set.
Meetings: In addition to regular troop meetings held on Monday evenings from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. at St. Cuthbert Episcopal Church, the troop plans one camping trip per month. Favorite sites include Pedernales Falls, Galveston and Enchanted Rock. In addition to Summer Camp and High Adventure Camp, Troop 1102 also participates in district events such as Camporee, Webelos Do Your Best and the annual Scout Fair.
Courts of Honor: Troop 1102 conducts three Courts of Honor annually. These are important events on the troop's calendar. At the Court of Honor, rank advancements, merit badges and other achievements are recognized. Once a scout has fulfilled the requirements necessary to advance in rank, he must participate in a Scoutmaster Conference and then sit before a Board of Review comprised of adult leaders. These conferences are held monthly.
